The Green Bird Wrasse (Gomphosus varius), also known as the Brown Bird Wrasse or the Blackbird Wrasse, is native to the tropical reefs of the Indo-Pacific. They are easily identifiable by their elongate and skinny beak that they use to catch their prey. Males have variable green coloration, while the females are brownish black. Green Bird Wrasse are a hardy but active fish that are known to jump and grow up to 11 inches long. As such, they will require plenty of room and rocks to swim in and explore and a tightly lidded tank. Be sure to research potential tankmates, as these fish will prey upon smaller fish and inverts and will be territorial towards most other wrasse.
