Pilot Explorer Fountain Pen – Metallic Emerald Blue

I prefer utilitarian pens: high performance writers, free of affectation. In that sense, the Pilot Explorer (in Fine) is truly marvellous. I tend to write lots, so an ornate, heavy pen is not something that excites me much. The Explorer is light and the grip very comfortable. You can write for hours. I also like pens that kind of disappear while I write. I don’t want to have my attention focused on the pen – I want to focus on the writing and the feeling of the nib on the paper. My experience with the Explorer is that I am more entranced by how it performs than how it looks. This is not the ceremonial, ritualistic-use fountain pen that some prefer. This is a pen that shows up casually, is always reliable and works in a very satisfying and precise way.
